Stop Holding Yourself Back

Welcome back fam,
Let‘s talk about our two biggest enemies:
Time
and
Ourselves

Growing up, my mother would always say,
Mija, no te quedes esperando porque el tiempo se pasa como agua.
This literally translates to,
Daughter, don’t stay just waiting around because time passes like water.
And it’s so true.
Just a couple of weeks ago, I was rummaging through some old documents in my office when I came across my paperwork from 2017 of the Doctoral program I’ve had my eye on (yes, your girl still has one more degree to go ✊🏽). In that moment I realized I had let two years go by without doing more research on my program or taking any additional steps to start.
Two years don’t seem like a lot in retrospect, and that’s the whole point of this post.
If I had not been cleaning out my desk, how much more time would’ve passed without me making my next move?
How many Mondays have passed that you’re supposed to start a new habit?
How many job opportunities have you seen and decided to not apply for because you’ll just apply to the next one?
Unfortunately, the Time Machine has not been invented. So all we can do now is reflect and do with what time we have left.
Society likes to throw the term potential around when discussing success and the truth is that we each create our own potential.
Just the other day I had a colleague tell me,
Wow Flor, you are just so capable!
And because I choose wisely when to invest my energy, I didn’t verbally respond, but in my head I said,
Umm, duh! 🙄
We‘re each capable of a lot of things, sometimes we just choose to not do certain things.
How many times have you said you can’t do something when in reality it’s more so you just choosing not to do it?
If there’s anything you take away from this it’s that you create your own potential. Only you know what you’re mentally and physically capable of doing and how far you can push those limits. Therefore, only you can stop yourself from moving forward until time stops.
As always, leave your thoughts in the comment section and drop a ❤️ if it evoked some emotion.
Successfully,
