Check Your Privilege

Hey loves,
I know it's been a while (a month to be exact), but I was struggling with writer's block and this gloomy weather in the Midwest has had me in my feels. Does anyone else get impacted by the weather?
Any who, something I've been doing when I feel unsuccessful is reflect on my trajectory and my privileges.

White privilege is not the only form of privilege.
I repeat,
White privilege is not the only form of privilege.
I know it's difficult to consider other privileges when there's been a huge focus on this specific form of privilege in recent years (especially for my Black and Brown folx), but it's important that we each recognize the privileges we each have.
Here's a list of some privileges I've recognized that I have:
Hearing my alarm
Waking up
Getting out of bed
In my home
Walking to my bathroom
Using the toilet alone
Using toilet paper
Brushing my teeth
Looking at myself in the mirror
Reaching into my closet for clothes
Putting my clothes on
Walking to my kitchen
Getting food from my fridge
Drinking clean water
Remotely starting my car
Having a job to go to
I can go on, but I'm hoping you get the gist of it.
My point is, sometimes we get so stuck on the next best thing and comparing our trajectories to our peers' that we become ungrateful of what we do have, and maybe even of the things we don't have to worry about that others might have to (like drinking clean water, ask my friends from Flint, Michigan).
This can also happen when people ask us for help. Their issue may seem so minute to us because of a privilege we may have that they don't, and if we don't check our privilege before responding, we may cause more harm to that person.
In short, it's important to keep a healthy balance between ambition and gratitude, this is what keeps us humble and sane.
